apple cake

today starts the weekend before my grandfather's birthday. every year, on this weekend, my mom and i make him my great grandma lena's apple cake. we only ever make it on this weekend, once a year, no more, no less. it's an all day kind of process, or at least it used to be before the invention of the bread machine. now it's a half of the day process. but it is the best dessert i have ever eaten in my entire life, my favorite sweet food in the history of the world, the epitome of deliciousness and it only comes ONCE a year. it's a secret family recipe that has only been passed down from my great grandma, to my mom, and to me, kind of to me...  anyway, it is super delicious, and pretty, i'll post pictures of it later. 

this morning mom and i went grocery shopping for the apple cake ingredients, and to kohls and to petsmart. the animal adoption agency at petsmart is really obnoxious. my mom and i have been interested in adopting a cat for a while, our henry is getting old... older and older... and we think he needs a companion, and eventually we are going to have to get a new cat. there's this little white kitten that has been hanging out around our front yard the past few days but we think she probably has an owner somewhere... even though she is soooo skinny and dirty. so today in petsmart we went to look at the cats for adoption. and as we were about to look at a cat and i told the woman about our cat henry who is an inside/outside cat she said "oh well we can't adopt to you then" it's against their policy to adopt cats to families that have other pets that go outdoors. WHAT? are you SERIOUS? it's better to keep a poor lonely cat in a cage in a pet store than to let her go home with a family that might let her run around outside???? are you JOKING crazy woman!! but no, she was serious... the cat could get sick she said. and of course it is MUCH better to let the cat just stay alone in a cage for a few more months. people are stupid. i have zero tolerance for stupid. we just walked away from her. 

yesterday was my last day of work. it was a good day. lindsay and joe and ian gave me a gift card to old navy and a card and the kids signed this big notebook for me. the museum has also offered me some other jobs. i want to take them i just have to figure out if it is possible logistically. i've loved working there. a lot.

i also got a free pair of vera wang jeans today when the lady at kohl's forgot to scan them and put them in our shopping bag. cha ching, super cute jeans for free. totally made the crazy animal lady seem insignificant. 

oh ya and i didn't get my hair cut yet. my girl had to reschedule... next wednesday... haircut. i have so much to do this week before i go to schoolllll. i have a meeting with sara wilford on tuesday at slc and then i have to go to ikea to pick up my mirror, i have my hair and a drs appt on wednesday and i have to go to the DMV and renew my license probly on thursday... i also have to get to home depot and target and go grocery shopping. and pack... ugh. 

i need to go slice apples. ciao
