no, i do not have time to be blogging right now

hello world.

these are busy times.

i'm feeling quite alright these days in spite of my tendency to over commit myself. i have lost track of how many people have asked me in the past week: "how many things do you do on this campus?" a lot is my answer. the good thing is i enjoy it.

after being abroad last year (physically in the fall and in ways, mentally in the spring) i've returned to sarah lawrence with a new love and appreciation for all that it stands for. i feel extremely good about being here right now, part of that feeling has to do with my current, wonderful living situation, i honestly couldn't imagine it being better. my physical comfort in living gives way for a lot of good feelings in other places of life. i feel good about my art and even though it's more work than i have ever had to do at sarah lawrence i feel good about the art of teaching program. i am on a good track.

these are good times.

it is a completely bizarre notion to me that there are less than 6 weeks left in the fall semester of my senior year. it makes me a little sad to think about the fact that i only get to live here for a few more months of my life. i've begun thinking about what i'll do next year. a lot of it depends on where my student teaching placement ends up happening and how many class meetings i have each week. but i think it also depends on how involved i want to stay in sarah lawrence next year. it's something i've been thinking about more than a lot. my mom brought up, the other day, that it wouldn't be insane to consider living at home next year and commuting to slc for classes and making sure that i have a student teaching placement that was reasonably commutable from home, somewhere in manhattan.

i'm having a really hard time figuring out what it would mean to just go to school here, 2 or 3 classes a week, that's all. not living on or near campus would mean that i couldn't attend most events and it would be highly unlikely that i could take part in any student leadership roles. but is next year time for me to separate myself from the social aspects of sarah lawrence and make it only about schooling? do i need to just move past my desire to stay committed to serving my school so that i can live at home and save tens of thousands of dollars? should i not make it about the money? i think that the rest of this semester and winter break and the beginning of spring will be time i spend attempting to figure this all out. there is just so much gray, nothing about this feels black and white to me. at this very moment i don't love the idea of living at home next year, but i don't know if my current reasons for that feeling are purely too emotional. maybe this decision is a case in which i need to focus more closely on logic.

anyway. i am listening to the best pandora radio station ever (type in "the four tops", so good) and i have to write several emails right now which will seriously effect the next 6 months of my life. i have to write a letter to the committee on student work and i have to get some sleep. tomorrow sadielou.net is holding a cross-genre reading. i need to bake a crumble and put up harrison's art exhibition in the black squirrel. this reading is going to be a very good thing. i think we're finally, really getting ourselves together at sadielou.

good times. busy times. good times.

november 4th 2008

"This is our moment. This is our time to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote that cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

Yes We Can."
